Routine Appointments (Changed from 03/04/18)

Appointments will now be available to book on the day or 21 days in advance. There will be availability to book either morning or afternoon appointments both with open on the day and 21 day pre-brookables.

Emergency Doctor System

All requests for emergency appointments will be triaged over the telephone by the duty doctor.  The staff will take your contact details, and the doctor will telephone you back.  They will then either deal with your health concern over the telephone or arrange for you to have an appointment if medically appropriate.

Telephone Appointments

For some problems it may not be needed for you to have to come into the surgery. If you wish the reception staff can arrange a telephone consultation with your GP. This type of consulation can be used, for example, for:

  • to discuss test results
  • recent hospital appointments
  • queries about medication

In some cases the doctor may ask you to book a telephone consulation for a follow up following a face to face appointment.

Intimate Examinations

Sometimes it is necessary for the doctor or nurse that you are seeing to perform an intimate examination. In accordance to the Practice Policy you maybe asked if you would feel more comfortable with a chaperone present for this type of examination. In the event the doctor or nurse forgets to ask. Please do not hesitate or be embarressed to ask for a chaperone if you would like one. We understand the reasons for such requests and will always provide a chaperone for those patients who want them. Occasionally this might mean a short delay in performing the examination.

Interpretation and Translation Services

If you require the service of an interpreter for an appointment, either for a language other than English or for British Sign Language (BSL), please inform us at reception so we can book an Interpreter for you.

Please Note: We require at least 48 hours' notice that an interpreter is required for an appointment to give us enough time to organise it.

Cancellations

We will require at least 24-48 hours notice if you cannot attend an appointment at the surgery. Cancellations on the day may be regarded as non-attendance as it may not be possible to fill the appointment in time.

'3 Before GP'

Patients are being asked to adopt a new three-step 'mantra' to help relieve pressures on GP services this.

The Royal College of GPs' '3 before GP' refers to three questions patients should ask themselves before booking an appointment with their GP:

Can I?

  1. self-care
  2. use NHS Choices or similar reputable websites/resources
  3. seek advice/treatment via a pharmacist
